As someone who does listen to [insert air quotes--very important] “Christian rock,” I try not to “mix it up” on your blog anymore, but this just cracked me UP.
(Also–I’ve always wondered how one “sells” their soul to the devil at the “crossroads.”)
It is wise to stay away from the Frank Peretti and Mike Warnke books
I know! It would be hilarious if it weren’t so silly!
If you ever see this kind of argumentation on this site, you have my permission to help shut the site down!
.-= Scott Aniol´s last blog ..Guys like this make conservatives look bad. =-.
This guy does make us look bad! There was no solid substance to what he had to say! This is what makes the rest of us look ignorant! This challenges me to study more so that I may present an educated argument!
Here comes a somewhat serious question–(not trying to nitpick)–I would certainly consider myself theologically conservative, as I would think many people who either listen to or perform Christian rock/Christian contemporary music, whatever you want to call it. Do you just mean “conservatives” musically? Or does the music issue put us in a different camp–maybe “moderates”?
Good point, Alice. I was speaking specifically of musical conservatism. I do believe that it is possible to be theologically conservative while at the same time musically progressive.
Of course, in my not so humble opinion, TRUE conservatism includes both!
Got it. Thanks for the clarification. “Musically progressive” has a nice ring to it, too.
To all those commenting here: What substance do YOU consider sufficient to qualify something as satanic or demonic? These are the points I produced:
1. Drugs present. Users of drugs do not enter Heaven.
2. Depression was at Kingdom Koffee. Who wears all black??? Happy people? No.
3. DEMONS WERE PRESENT.
I don’t think those who commented here previous to me are serious about seeking God. The Lord once told me, “The false teachings in the church are so numerous, you would not believe it if I told you.”
Even the music that is widely accepted by Christians is filled with wrong scriptural messages.
Again to those laughing at this message: how much other trash do you allow into your lives? Adultery? (porn, necking on dates, ogling women) Hate? Mockery?
I hope you fellows will take seeking God seriously. How many times have you said, “Lord, I give it all to you.” How many times? Yet you still bring false fire? Rock music is not the offering God wants.
Next time, be honest with God. Say, “Lord, I give it all to you. Oh, except music. I still want to do whatever I want there!”
Just remember, when you open the door to satan’s goods, you open the door to Satan’s team.
Dear Mr. Man,
I, speaking only for myself, do not condone the use of rock music in worship.
It is your silly argumentation to which I object.
There are many intelligent arguments to be made against the use of rock music in worship. To observe my attempt at such an exercise, see my book (www.worshipinsongbook.com).
But I do believe that arguments like yours hurt the cause of those of us who are trying to argue biblically.
Mr. Aniol,
I viewed a number of your videos. To be honest, I wanted to find something to compliment you on. I wanted to return love for mockery. What I found instead is your list of beliefs, which I am always sorry to find being believed by anyone. I hope you will tell me the contrary is true. However, it seems you believe:
sola scriptura– only the Bible is a source for Christians. This doctrine reduces God to a collection of writings. Further, it usually means only those writings selected for inclusion into the collection (a very good collection, which I read daily) assembled by persons whose motivation is unknown to us.
You don’t care if people have different interpretations of the same scripture. Don’t speak so casually! Care if people have the Word or not. Many have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof– and so they are unable to comprehend the truth of the Power of God.
People who lead and teach like your teachers, and now like you, lead sheep into the ditch. If you follow a mute God, how are you guided? Joseph followed a God who sent angels to tell him to return with the child Jesus to Israel– only to stop him en route when Herod’s son came to power.
How do you live? I live by every word that comes from God. Because I accept and love the Holy Spirit, He teaches me and guides me. He lets me know when things are wrong. He tells me as I am in front of people, “Here is depression. Pray against depression.” He told me when a youth in my church was suicidal…
Have you seen my other videos? This is REAL Christianity, a walk with the God of Power.
Scott- I want you to know, there is no reason but your own hesitation that YOU are not walking in the same relationship, or stronger, with the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob. God still loves us when we fall short. But, I fear for people who follow doctrines such as those you quote in your interview. When the mark comes, will they take it? What about those rejected in Matthew 7:23? Those people prophesied and healed. Yet because they did not know Jesus, they were rejected. And here you are, saying, “Only scripture” determines our beliefs and actions. If those who obeyed God to cast out demons and prophecy do not enter Heaven because they failed to have a relationship, what will become of you who have no relationship and also deny the power and Living state of God?
Rethink your position, Mr. Aniola!
Guilty as charged. I do, indeed, believe in the absolute and exclusive authority of the Word of God alone.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”
“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”
Mr. Man, God could speak to us if he wanted to, but as in the 400 years of silence between old and new testaments he has chosen to speak to his people through his written word only. I read your response to Scott and was struck by the fact that the arguments you used for continued revelation and againt Sola Scriptura have been used for centuries by Catholics and cults like Adventists, JWs and Mormons.
If you say the Lord told you one thing and he told someone else the opposite thing how does anyone know who was the false prophet? The Bible is the gold standard, it is the final authority in all points of doctrine and practice. Another thing is that God did give us the ability to reason, although damaged by the fall, our reasoning ability is God given. We are not slaves to each and every person who claims what they say is from God.
Like Scott said, there are plenty of biblical arguments and common sense arguments that can be marshalled without resorting to extrabiblical revelation. I made my comment about Warnke and Peretti because their books feed a mindset that you are demonstrating, which is popular in pentacostal circles, that spiritual warfare is metaphysical rather than philosophical and spritual. We need to inform our theology of Satan and demons from the bible and not Hollywood movies like The Exorcist.
